Marital Test!
[info]sylvar tracked down the full version of the 1939 marital test I blogged about yesterday on a Flickr account. It includes a husband test, too!

I shall note that my Wife Score has increased to a positively glowing +2. I have not yet taken the Husband Test, as I'm going to sit here and kill my hands by typing in all the statements so I can make an internet quiz out of it.

ETA: I just took the Husband Test and I have to say I make an awesome husband. At least compared to the wife score: a +40! Which lifts me up to Poor, right on the border of Average!

I'm gonna wait until you have this in Internet format for us.

Are quoting the questions exactly, or are you (as I would) rephrasing them as second person, gender neutral?

Too much work, and it would remove some of the amusingly offensive 1930s social attitudes. :) They're staying as they are.

So why didn't the original article mention there was a husband test, hmmm?

At a guess, I'd say that it was probably using a copy they had in the archives that was missing the husband test. :)

Yahoo!

I rate a 40 as a wife, and a 62 as a husband. I am superior!

(I do feel I should gain points despite my unwillingness to let [info]nihilistic_kid drive, given that he has no license and doesn't know how. But I, uh, am a car-hog anyway, so maybe not.)

I gave myself a wife point on the "Keeps self dainty, perfumed, and feminine" one, because while dainty and feminine aren't really the words to describe me, I do have massive amounts of BPAL. XD

Hee!

I was relieved that it asked about snoring, but not about talking in your sleep.

I lost a point on that, as I have been informed that I snore when I have allergy issues.

Clearly, you darn socks and wash the cap on the milk before pouring it! :-)

(I'm still wondering why I get points off for warming my feet on my spouse at night, myself. I was sure the right to do that was included in the marriage contract somewhere.)

I'm pretty sure that if I attempted to give [info]myrialux a manicure, he'd freak the hell out.

I got up to 25 as a wife and am too lazy to take the husband test. I do like that there's the occasional gender-neutral/respectful bit there.

Aw, man. I need to tell my husband we need to split up so he can find someone more appropriate.

I only scored a 4. Woe. /overly dramatic.

I, she says smugly, am a superior husband. +60.

On the other hand, I got +27 on the wife scale, which makes me feel vaguely as if I ought to spend more time wandering about the house in pajamas and eating directly from the refrigerator, just to make sure. Sadly, I do not like red nail polish.

I did take one point in 'is jolly and gay', despite not being the bad-1950s-joke-cracking type, because I found it so hilarious that I was getting a +1 on this thing for gayness.

I'm 24 as a wife, 43 as a husband.

But I really have no basis for saying I'm a considerate lover to my wife (+20 points!).

I'm a 25 as a wife (just enough to make me a Poor wife, rather than a Very Poor wife, woohoo) and a whopping 65 as a husband! (Of course, that one required a bit of guessing. I don't know whether I could be an 'ardent lover' for my wife and make sure she has an orgasm during 'marital congress', but I will flatter myself to think so.)

There is really a marked difference between the two tests. The 'husband' test seems to be a lot more about sensible, courteous behavior like picking up your stuff and greeting your wife when you come home. The 'wife' test, on the other hand, is full of ridiculous stuff like whether or not you wear red nail polish or wash off the top of the milk bottle before opening it. Sheesh.

On the topic of retro things - MN's Historical Society is "celebrating 1950s suburbia". I'm not sure what to think of this: http://www.mnhs.org/historycenter/programs/retrorama/
