Now that I've got the four Death Note characters chibified, I need to think of other characters to chibify for keychains and such. XD

Off to Jo-Anns to buy a larger circle punch, because I think I can get some stickers or something out of these if I make them bigger than the 1 1/8" keychain size.

I mostly suck at drawing chibis, so I spent the entire evening practicing them, just copying them from various Bleach sketches in the tankoubons, and from one of the how-to-draw-manga type books that wasn't actually a How To Draw Manga book.

After all that, I finally did one on my own - not refined or anything, still in quick sketch form. Interesting fact: having previously drawn Grimmjow Jaggerjack before is not actually any help whatsoever in rendering his mullet in chibi format.

Awww, who's a cute widdle Awwancaw? )

5/8/08 06:45 pm - Sssso.....

...if I made Cosplay Bingo sets and sold them for $5 each, would you get one?

A set would include 10 bingo cards, each different, and 100 cardstock chips (laminated). The chips would be in their own plastic bag that fit in a larger bag with the cards. The number of chips is assuming that 4 players would be playing a blackout game where you fill in every spot on the card. If you think you'd need more chips, I could throw in more at $1/100. If you didn't catch me at a con, you'd have to pay shipping which would probably run $2.50ish for the US and Canada, 3.50 elsewhere.

I have a boring poll today that you can't see the answers on. :) I have to see if I'd get enough pre-orders to pay for the first batch, which is the point where I'd feel OK making them. If not, well, I'll just make myself one set and we can play it at A-Kon.

Poll #1184889
Open to: All, results viewable to: None

If I make sets of Cosplay Bingo for $5 would you buy them?

Yes, if you opened up pre-orders
7 (28.0%)

Yes, if I saw you at a con
10 (40.0%)

Maybe
8 (32.0%)

5/8/08 04:10 pm - Cosplayer Bingo!

I just had an awesome idea, sparked by a post on [info]renegadekitsune's LJ: Cosplayer Bingo. Cards with short text descriptions of things to look for, both characters and general descriptions. You sit at your artist alley table or wherever with your friends, each one gets a card, and you mark them as you see them. The first player to complete a five-marker line wins. Or, if you're hardcore, the person who fills in the entire card first wins.

So: give me ideas!

Examples:

--Sesshoumaru
--Sanzo
--Male crossplaying as a female
--Female crossplaying as a male
--Cosplayer of ambiguous gender
--Female version of male character
--Prop over six feet in length
--Cosplayer unable to see out of costume
--Costume wider than the cosplayer's height
--A group of three or more cosplaying the same character
--Wings on a character that does not wear them in canon
--A non-cosplayer carrying a keyblade
--A witty twist on a common character (i.e. Sephiroth wandering around with a tiny Aeris doll stuck on his sword.)

Etc.

ETA: -- A Star Trek character at an anime convention.

4/1/08 09:07 am - You have one hour to give me ideas!

...as I have a meeting in an hour and have to have something to doodle to keep me awake and focused during it.

Thanks to the scrapbooking craze, I've managed to lay my hands on an inexpensive laminator* and some paper punches to make phone straps/keychains/charms/whatever with. So I'm looking for ideas for themed-type pictures to do for those type of items, like zodiac symbols or whatever.

Details: The images are going to be only an inch to an inch and a half in size. Nothing elaborate. Simple is the key. The problem with the European zodiac is that there's a full 12 symbols, which is a lot to do in two months. The Chinese zodiac has that same problem, plus is currently inextricably associated in my mind with Fruits Basket. The traditional four elements might work, but is now associated with Avatar in my head, arg. The Four Bishounen of the Apocalypse** are good, and I'll probably do new versions of them, but I don't want to add to the line as (a) they would no longer be the Four Bishounen of the Apocalypse, losing part of the joke, and (b) there's only so far you can take a good joke anyway.

So: any ideas of characteristics, labels, quiz results, etc. that you might see on a small piece of swag at an anime con?

* Which also makes stickers and magnets, amusingly enough.

** If you're new here, they're Snarky, Angsty, Brooding, and Cute.

6/4/07 11:03 pm - A-Kon photos

Got the cosplayer photos I took at A-Kon posted here on Flickr. Rachel took half of them, actually, so there's some there in the middle I hadn't seen until I dumped them off the camera. :D

Still tired & exhausted. Am heading towards bed now. Will attempt to post report tomorrow.

5/29/07 12:59 am - That one wot none of you dared venture a guess on...

While I was making prints tonight, I sat down and finished inking That One Wot None of You Ventured a Guess On a week or so back. If I don't get a chance to sit down and work on it before the con, I'll take it to the con - I want to try out this marker technique that uses watercolor pencils under the marker on it. I've tested that on small bits and bobs here and there, but enver done a full piece with it.

Remind me to transfer Vincent to a piece of paper using the lightbox before I go to A-Kon. I'm not getting him done before the con, so I might as well get him done while at the con.
