5/6/08 09:48 am - Note to people with LibraryThing accounts:

It's totally awesome that you're putting Project Blue Rose and Spindrift in LibraryThing. But when you do, would you please PUT MY NAME IN THERE TOO? There's an "Other authors" field right there with options to choose from for role. (Which are limited: I don't really like just "Illustrator" because that's too limiting, but "Author" isn't right, either. So I have to live with Illustrator, I think, because it's more accurate than Author.

And I can't figure out if there's a way for me to upload an image of the cover or not. Whine. Found it.

12/9/06 09:53 pm - It's wintertime

and therefore I'm nesting: getting the urge to make stew and chicken stock. At the store yesterday I noticed baking hens going for $ .99/pound, so I bought two, intending to make double stock - i.e. you make stock with one chicken, then you make stock with the other, using the stock that you made the first time round for the water the second time. It's a good way to make a flavorful stock when you can't get your hands on a good, tastly roasting chicken and are stuck with the flavorless hunks of flesh that pass for chicken nowadays. (And beef. I am sorely disappointed in most meat nowadays because what makes it to the grocery store is bland and flavorless. I'm really going to have to hunt down a traditional butcher to find something with flavor.)

Anyway, since I really don't have time to let it simmer for 8-10 hours today and then 8-10 hours tomorrow, I'm experimenting: I've got one chicken going in the stewpot, with onions and garlic and carrots and celery and ginger thrown in (I swear by ginger. Mmm.), and one cut up in hunks and thrown into the slow cooker with much the same vegetables and much less water. I have no idea how I'm going to combine them tomorrow, but it's going to be fun finding out. :)

Cut on the off chance Mom decides to come by here and read this, because it's about her Christmas present. )

*pokes internet* Anybody out there?

Aarg, today and yesterday have been frustrating - nobody's returning my email (including the bloody pet sitters who I desperately need to engage by FRIDAY), my vacuum cleaner gave up the ghost right before I got to cleaning up the kitty litter around the cat box, I've got a column to write that should go up next week (this week's has been written and in my editor's inbox since last week), and really ought to write one to go up the week after next because the last thing I want to do when I get home from the cruise is bash out a column, and I ordered a book from Amazon.com six weeks ago that I find out finally shipped and was delivered ... on the 21st ... to who-knows-where, so I have to first phone the apartment office tomorrow and see if there's just no note on my door and they ahve it, or if it's lost somewhere in which case I go bitch at Amazon.com. And nobody's buying my BPAL bottles because the next full moon is at the end of enxt week and everyon and their dog is trying to sell to get money for it (I did check and nobody else is buying anything from anyone else, either, which makes me feel only a little bit better). I suppose if I dropped the price a chunk, I'd get rid of them. Hrm. I was feeling quite poor and hoped to be able to shunt that off to my credit card this week. Oh well. And Firefox is doing that weird intermittent thing where a single quote typed in a text box makes it go to the next line. (I've already gone over all the possible bugfixes for this with a friend, none of which worked, and I am Not Interested in constructive advice, I am interesting in whining.)

World, here is Mello's fabulous ass. You are cordially invited to bite it.
